Are you ready to transform your life in the next year? Imagine looking into a crystal ball and seeing a fitter, healthier, and more energized version of yourself. Picture checking off bucket list items, having more fun, and experiencing positive changes in your relationships and career. Most importantly, envision how you want to feel. The MIND-BODY-SPIRIT Goals Roadmap is here to help you achieve all of this and more.
Finding Your Balance
Have you ever experienced a time when everything seemed to be in perfect harmony? Your mind, body, and spirit were aligned, and you felt focused, healthy, and energized. On the other hand, we’ve all faced periods of feeling unfocused, overwhelmed, and exhausted. This imbalance occurs when one or more areas of your life aren’t getting the attention they need.
The MIND-BODY-SPIRIT Goals Roadmap will guide you in setting goals and priorities that restore balance. It will help you identify the areas of your life that need attention, pinpoint your current status, and create a plan to bring everything into harmony. This guide will help you find the right kind of life balance, keeping you moving forward instead of feeling stuck.
The Old Way of Reaching Life Balance
Many of us have been told we can “have it all.” While well-intentioned, this phrase often leads to feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Balancing health, relationships, environment, career, finances, spirituality, personal growth, fun, and leadership all at once can be daunting. Instead of feeling fulfilled, we end up struggling.
The New Way of Looking at Balance
The MIND-BODY-SPIRIT Goals Roadmap offers a healthier approach. By categorizing your life into three simple areas—mind, body, and spirit—you can achieve balance more effectively. For example, your job can provide resources for your body, challenge and growth for your mind, and meaning and fulfillment for your spirit. Exercise can boost your energy, strength, and health, improve brain function, and enhance your mood and sense of accomplishment.
Your Body-Mind-Spirit Balance Checkup
Take some time to evaluate your current actions in each area: body, mind, and spirit. You might excel in one area while lagging in others, and that’s okay. Write down your actions to see where you need to ramp up your efforts. This exercise will help you identify which zones need attention and where you want to focus your efforts this year.
Creating Your Body-Mind-Spirit Plan
It’s time to take action! Set 1-3 action steps to bring your mind, body, and spirit into balance today. Use SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—to ensure success. Here are some sample goals to get you started:
Mind: “I want to improve my ability to focus by not mindlessly scrolling on social media during the day.”
Body: “I want to get stronger and fitter by working out 30 minutes, five days a week.”
Spirit: “I want to nurture my spiritual well-being by going to a meditation class once a week.”
Setting Specific Goals
Be as specific as possible with your goals. For example, instead of saying, “I want to exercise more,” say, “I will work out for 30 minutes, five days a week.”
Creating Measurable Goals
Make your goals measurable so you can monitor your progress. Track the number of days you achieve your goal, keep a record of your workouts, and hold yourself accountable for attending classes.
Ensuring Achievable Goals
Set realistic goals that you can achieve. If you’re used to spending hours on social media, start by cutting that time in half. Choose an exercise routine that fits your current fitness level and schedule.
Choosing Relevant Goals
Select goals that are meaningful to you. If you want to be more present with your kids, limit your social media time. Choose a workout plan you enjoy and actions that align with your beliefs.
Setting a Timeframe
Create a specific timeframe with a deadline to help create accountability. For example, “I will cap my time on social media at 30 minutes daily for the next 6 weeks.”
Your Life Balance S.M.A.R.T. Goal Planner Worksheet
For each goal, fill in the blanks: “I will (specific action) (how long/how often) for (time frame). This goal is relevant, achievable, and meaningful for me because…”
Sample Goal:
“I will work out for 30 minutes 5 days a week for the next 4 weeks. This goal is relevant, achievable, and meaningful for me because I want to feel better and have more energy. I will work out 3 days a week after work and once on the weekend. I am tired of feeling tired and am excited to start getting my pep back.”
